This Week at the Pool 6/9/23-6/16/23
Pool Hours This Week
Pool hours this week are as follows:
Saturday: Swim Team Time Trials in the morning.
Pool should be open for the members from noon-10:00PM
Sunday-Friday: 11:00AM-8:00PM
Air Quality & Operating Status
Forecasts indicate that the wildfire smoke from Canada should largely continue to dissipate over the weekend. We anticipate the Pool being open normally as a result. This likely won't be the last time we may encounter poor air quality due to smoke pollution from wildfires to our north and west. The Board will always assess conditions prior to the Pool opening each day and make an announcement of any closures via the Pool's Facebook, Twitter and website. Generally speaking, we would not anticipate opening the Pool in the event of a Code Purple / AQI of 200 or more (https://www.airnow.gov/aqi/aqi-basics/).

Courtesy, Cleanliness and Safety!
NOTE: This announcement was posted to the Pool Facebook page earlier this week.
Members are reminded to treat the Guards, the snack bar staff, and each other with courtesy and politeness. If you have an issue with one of the staff, please bring it to the Board’s attention – you can reach the officers using board@greenbriar.org, or attend a board meeting (third Wednesday of each month, location is posted on the pool calendar). Rudeness can result in disciplinary action including suspension of pool access. We hope that folks have noticed how beautiful the pool water is this season. The credit for this change belongs to the leadership at NVPools, who convinced the board last Fall to invest in a robotic vacuum system for this season. The entire board is very pleased with the results of this investment, as the robot is tireless and more thorough than humans. But the challenge to the membership is to try and keep the pool deck as clean as the pool interior. Please eat and drink only in the areas where there are picnic tables set up, and be sure to put all your post-dining waste in the trash. If you spill something on the deck, take the time to clean it up. And let’s make sure our younger members rinse off the sand before re-entering the pool from a playground. Our exterminator has been directed to deal with the new wasp nests and the outbreak of ticks, but this is something that’s being seen all around the county – it’s not unique to our pool.
Earlier this week we had to lower the water level in the pool for a few hours to replace one of the anchor points that connect our floating marker lines. The anchor point got pulled out of the wall because someone was pulling or sitting on the line. So please keep off the lines, and don’t give the guards any grief when they remind you.
We have given out almost 200 swimsafe bands in the first week of the season. It’s great to see so many of our younger kids getting comfortable and skilled enough to be safe in the deep water, and to be able to use the boards and join the sports teams. But the swimsafe test (swimming one lap and treading water in the deep end for one uninterrupted minute) is not a test with any wiggle room in it. There’s no shame in not feeling ready to take the test, or in not passing the test – kids should keep learning and practicing until they can pass it. No parent should attempt to interfere with the test or influence the guard giving the test – this is a violation of pool rules. We take the safety of our swimmers/divers very seriously, our rules reflect this, and the guards have been reminded that it’s their top priority.
Update Regarding Side Lot Sport Courts
Asphalt leveling work was completed last week on the side parking lot in anticipation of the installation of a third pickleball court as we have previously communicated. We anticipate the painting of the new court to occur in the next 1-3 weeks.
Pool Calendar
We encourage members to check the Pool general calendar and Dolphin Swim Team calendars here:

How to Check Real-Time Pool Headcount
Members may check the headcount status on the pool website here: http://enet.hopto.org/gbpool.html. Please note that this website sometimes takes 10-30 seconds to render with data depending on website traffic and your individual connection speed. The Board reminds everyone to be courteous and respectful to pool staff and other pool members, especially in the context of having to wait to access the property.
